Sabah asks Putrajaya to allocate RM2.5b for flood mitigation projects
The Sabah state government has urged Putrajaya to allocate much-needed RM2.5 billion in the upcoming 12th Malaysia Plan for flood mitigation in four districts in the Borneo state.
This came after 11 districts in Sabah were hit by floods last month.

State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong (above) said Sabah was allocated a total of RM511 million to build basic infrastructures for flood mitigation in the past 20 years.
This included RM3 million under the Seventh Malaysia Plan and RM300 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan from Putrajaya, as well as RM200 million from the state government.
"We are still short of about RM2.5 billion and this (allocation) doesn’t even include Tawau, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kota Marudu and Beaufort,” Wong was quoted as saying by Borneo Post.
He said the state's political alignment should not be an issue for Putrajaya to look into Sabah's request for allocation as Chief Minister Shafie Apdal had stressed that the state government would always work with the federal government.
"You see, when you form a federal government, you are actually building a nation. When you are building a nation, you are looking into taking care of the people in all of Malaysia,” he added.
