Report: Adib's family to file civil action against police
The family of the late firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim would be filing a civil action against the police over purported negligence in acting to find individuals allegedly responsible for his death, according to a local news report.
Harian Metro quoted Adib's father, Mohd Kassim Abdul Hamid, 64, as saying that although his family have accepted the passing, they still mourn Adib's death as justice have yet to be served.

Harian Metro quoted Adib's father, Mohd Kassim Abdul Hamid, 64, as saying that although his family have accepted the passing, they still mourn Adib's death as justice have yet to be served.
"I lost my son and his death has yet to be avenged, so I want to claim damages (because) our family is highly disappointed and dissatisfied with the statement made by Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
"I felt this was very strange, how the IGP can make a contradictory statement to a Coroner's Court finding that there were criminal elements to Adib's death," said Mohd Kassim.
Abdul Hamid on Monday denied claims by Adib's family that the police had disrespected the outcome of an inquest into his cause of death.
He said the Coroner's Court does not bound any party from looking for new evidence or findings, and in this case, police have proposed a new probe as the inquest did not yield a clear statement that Adib was assaulted.
Mohd Kassim had initially raised the family's unhappiness after the IGP announced that police have proposed a new taskforce to re-examine all aspects of the firefighter's death.
Further, Mohd Kassim today reportedly said his family still reserved hope that police would identify more witnesses and arrest the individuals who allegedly assaulted Adib to his death.
He insisted there was no need to revisit the inquest's proceedings, and urged all parties to respect the court's ruling.
On Sept 27 last year, coroner Rofiah Mohamad in delivering her ruling had attributed Adib’s death to a criminal act perpetrated by two or three unidentified assailants.
Adib died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018, after succumbing to injuries sustained during riots near the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya about a month earlier.
