Warisan admitting Dr M? Not impossible, says party chair

Warisan might open its doors to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, but it would require amendments to its constitution, said permanent party chairperson Liew Vui Keong.

Speaking to Astro Awani in Sandakan today, Liew (above) said the party's constitution meant that its membership was not open to non-Sabahans, but that can change, if necessary.

"I think the possibility is there. So far, Warisan is only focused on the state of Sabah but the constitution can be changed to make it Warisan Malaysia.

"This requires a change to the party constitution. So, this is in the process.

"I think it is possible for other MPs who do not yet have a platform and if they want to join the Warisan struggle, we can consider (it)," he added. 

Mahathir and five other former Bersatu MPs are currently sitting on the independent bench in Parliament.

This bloc had endorsed Warisan president Shafie Apdal for prime minister, should "Pakatan Harapan Plus" - a working title for the entire opposition bloc - secure the numbers to oust Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

So far, Mahathir and MPs loyal to him have filed a suit against Bersatu for expelling them from the party and have not made a decision on whether they will migrate to an existing party or form a new one.
