Ministry says MySejahtera app started as CSR, no details on cost
The Communications and Multimedia Ministry said the MySejahtera app started off as a corporate social responsibility effort but did not elaborate whether there would be costs incurred going forward.
Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh had asked Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah to state the cost involved in developing the MySejahtera and Gerak Malaysia apps, both used by the government to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ministry, in a parliamentary written reply, said the development of the Gerak Malaysia app, which was used to collect data on interstate travel, was "fully borne by the industry".
As for the MySejahtera app, used by the government for contact tracing, the ministry said it "started development as a corporate social responsibility" project.
It said Gerak Malaysia has been downloaded 2.2 million times while the MySejahtera app had 6,366,678 users as of July 15.
In a separate written reply, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo had asked Saifuddin why the granting of the 700MHz spectrum was not done through open tender as initially planned.
The ministry's written reply elaborated at length on the importance of the spectrum and 5G but did not address why there was no open tender.
Saifuddin, who signed the directive to grant the spectrum without a tender, had on June 3 reversed the action.
