Palm oil mills in N Sembilan told to install air pollution devices
Palm oil mills in Negeri Sembilan have been given until December next year to install additional air pollution control devices or have their licences revoked.
State health, environment, cooperatives and consumerism committee chairperson S Veerapan said this was to ensure that smoke emitted through the factories’ chimneys complied with the current regulations.

"This is one of the conditions set by the Department of Environment (DOE) under Section 25, Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulation 2014 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 for licence renewal.
"The DOE will carry out an assessment of the factories’ compliance before renewing their licences every year. I hope factory operators will always adhere to the regulations and co-operate with the DOE, so that their operations will not affect the wellbeing of residents nearby," he told Bernama today.
He said this when met during the closing ceremony of the Negeri Sembilan licence compliance workshop and licence handing-over ceremony for palm oil mills for the 2020/2021 session.
Also present was Negeri Sembilan DOE director Azuri Azizah Saedon.
To date, there are 16 palm oil factories in the state.
