Educationist group Dong Zong has launched an essay writing competition themed "Embrace Diversity" in conjunction with the Malaysia Day 2020 celebrations.

"Thanks to globalisation, society has never been so diverse. In fact, diversity is the mainstay of life in the 21st century," said the group in a statement today.

"Please pick up your pen and join us. By taking part in the project at this memorable juncture of our history, we can together build a better future of our country through embracing diversity and inclusiveness," said Dong Zong.

The competition, sponsored by the Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and Village Development exco member Ng Sze Han, is organised in partnership with Malaysiakini.

According to Dong Zong, participants are invited to share their personal stories of multiculturalism or cross-cultural experience, with the aim of tackling racism, stigma, prejudice and xenophobia in the country.

Aside from promoting multi-culturalism, it said the competition's objective includes to encourage Malaysians to preserve the country's multicultural identity.

All entries (hardcopy or softcopy) must be submitted before or on Sept 8, 2020.
