PBS sec-gen claims ignorance on PN launch, yet to decide on joining

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Jahid Jahim said he is in the dark about this weekend's scheduled launch of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
The incumbent Tamparuli assemblyperson said PBS has yet to make a decision on whether to join PN as a member, as reported recently.
Jahid added that he needed to follow up on the matter with party president Maximus Ongkili, who is still in Kuala Lumpur, recuperating from extreme exhaustion.
"The launching (of PN)? Let me check with my party president first because I am not in the know. I will seek his advice," he told Malaysiakini.
Jahid said that he had only read the news on Muhyiddin's slated launch of the PN coalition in Sabah ahead of the Sept 26 state election.
Singapore's Straits Times reported that PBS and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) were considering joining the PN.
Jahid clarified that PBS is a PN-friendly party, similar to GPS in Sarawak, which had joined the PN government but is not a component party of the ruling coalition.
Asked if PBS would use its own logo in the coming state election, he again said that he would have to check with the party president.
Maximus, who is the Kota Marudu MP, has been absent from the Dewan Rakyat, which commenced sitting on July 13, due to health issues.
While noting that the party is eyeing to contest in 30 state constituencies, Jahid said this is subject to an ongoing discussion with the other parties involved.
In the 2018 general election, PBS contested in 13 state seats and won six of them. Two PBS lawmakers then defected to Warisan and later switched their allegiance to former chief minister Musa Aman.
The snap election was called in Sabah after Musa on July 29 claimed he had garnered enough support from the assemblypersons to form a new state government.
This prompted the governor to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly, upon the advice of Chief Minister Shafie Apdal.
The EC has scheduled polling day to be held on Sept 26.
