DAP's Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh has been appointed as the new Public Accounts Committee chairperson, with Bersatu's Beaufort MP Azizah Mohd Dun as his deputy.
Wong (above) replaced Umno's Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad who is now part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration as Higher Education Minister.
Four other PAC members had resigned after PN took power in March.
The motion to appoint Wong and Azizah to their new posts was moved by de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan, and was passed with a voice vote in Parliament earlier today.
In a statement later, Wong said the PAC's first order of business is to now complete all outstanding proceedings that have been put on hold. The PAC has not met since March.
"The PAC has lost valuable time throughout the seven-week Parliament meeting, in which the PAC was also supposed to be in session. We now have to make strides to make up for lost time," he said.
Previously, Wong said three PAC reports were ready to be tabled and three others have yet to be finalised.
He hoped that the PAC reports when tabled, will be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.
The DAP lawmaker also said he would work closely with Azizah and other PAC members to carry out their duties.
