Nephew seeks to topple Bersatu chief 'uncle' in Sulaman stronghold

"He is (my) uncle but politics is different," Aliasgar said after being nominated as a candidate at Dewan Seri Sulaman in Tuaran today.
Even though Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin this morning mooted Hajiji as a possible chief ministerial candidate which could see a lot of resources flowing into the constituency, Aliasgar is optimistic about his own chances.
He cited the example where Warisan's Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis defeated her uncle Salleh Said Keruak in the Kota Belud parliamentary seat during the 2018 general election.
He added that Hajiji's potential of becoming chief minister if the opposition wins was not guaranteed as Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin, who is contesting the Lamag seat, is also interested in the state's top post.
"They are not united. In Warisan, we have only one chief minister candidate," he said, in reference to Warisan president Shafie Apdal.

Meanwhile, Rekan believed his party is the better choice for Sabahans as it advocates that the state be developed equally for all ethnic groups.
Speaking to the media later, Hajiji said he hoped to win in Sulaman so that he can help the people and bring development for them.
"We, in PN and BN assure that we will continue to protect the people of Sabah," said Hajiji, who is the seven-term incumbent assemblyperson for Sulaman.
He previously contested under the BN logo but is defending the seat under PN this time.
Umno had agreed to allow Bersatu to contest the seat.
