He was responding to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah who advised politicians to politicking, which could affect the stability of the country's administration.
"Firstly, we have to adhere to the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, but we were in a 50-50 situation where no investors want to come, the economy is not good, and it was the people who caused this situation.
"The people voted 50-50 (for Harapan) first and they were deceived," Zahidi told reporters today.
"Don't blame the politicians because what happened now is caused by the people who voted (for Harapan) because they were deceived (by them)," he said after attending meeting with BN parliamentarians in Kuala Lumpur.
He said Harapan had pledged in its manifesto to abolish highway tolls and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan, which they failed to fulfil after winning the polls.
Zahidi, who is also the deputy communications and multimedia minister, urged the people not to punish the politicians who were trying to correct the situation.
"The duty of the politicians is just to to rectify the situation, so how to do that? That's why we were giving our views," he said.
For the record, Harapan had made several pledges in relation to PTPTN in its 2018 manifesto, but did not say it would abolish it.
Instead, it promised to overhaul its repayment structure, particularly for graduates earning less than RM4,000 a month.
