Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, tabling Budget 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat today, said the discounted travel pass would be for Year One to Form Six students only.
"If the average fare now is RM5 a day, beginning next year, it will be RM5 a month," he said.
Zafrul also announced that the My30 unlimited monthly travel pass, which was introduced in the middle of this year, would be extended to next year.
The RM30 pass provides unlimited rides on all Rapid KL rail services (MRT, LRT and monorail), the BRT, Rapid KL buses and MRT feeder buses for 30 days.
Zafrul said this will now be extended to Rapid services in Penang and Kuantan too.
Zafrul said the transformation of stage buses had already been carried out in Kangar, Seremban, Ipoh and Kuala Terengganu and this will now be extended to Johor Bahru, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Kuantan.
He added that sales tax exemption for the purchase of ready-made buses will also be extended to Dec 31, 2022.
