Warisan's Bugaya assemblyperson Manis Muka Mohd Darah passed away today.
The 65-year-old Sabah state lawmaker was reportedly admitted into hospital last night for kidney problems.
Penampang MP Darell Leiking announced her death and extended condolences to her family in the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon.
Manis defended her seat with a 6,005 vote majority in a seven-cornered fight during the last Sabah state elections. Her name was subsequently listed on the state government's official website as Manis Buka Mohd Darah.
During the campaign trail, Manis had reportedly explained that the formal spelling of her name was the result of a typographical error during the registration of her birth.
At the time, the former Semporna Wanita Umno chief was quoted as saying that she was named after a legendary woman from one of the many islands in Semporna, said to be the most beautiful to have ever lived.
The vacancy in Bugaya will also force another by-election in Sabah, after the upcoming Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election due to be called on Dec 5.
In the peninsula, the passing of Gerik MP Hasbullah Osman yesterday will also see the call for a by-election.
