Crime index down 32 percent in Perak, from January to October

Perak deputy police chief Goh Boon Keng (photo, above) said that for the first 10 months of last year, a total of 4,129 index crime cases were recorded and for the same period this year, the number has dropped to 2,834 cases.
“One of the main reasons is the movement control order (MCO), where the police have carried out various operations, including roadblocks, patrols and regular police presence in an area.
“This reduced the chances for criminals to commit crimes,” Goh said in a press conference after the handing over of duties ceremony of the state deputy police chief in Ipoh today.
At the ceremony, Goh, who will go on mandatory retirement on Sunday, handed over his duties to his successor Mazlan Santarai, witnessed by Bukit Aman’s Administration Division head Zaini Jass. Mazlan previously served as the state Special Branch chief.
Goh said that for the January to October period this year, the number of violent crimes in the state has also dropped to 670 cases compared to 941 cases recorded last year, while property crime decreased from 3,188 cases reported last year to 2,164 as at last month.
Meanwhile, the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department has conducted 10 operations with the arrest of 9,214 people who had been prosecuted under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Goh said.
“For the state Commercial Crime Investigation Department, a total of 1,371 cases were recorded for the same period, with an increase of 55 cases have been successfully resolved, compared to the same period last year,” he said.
