Bersatu to foster closer cooperation with PAS after Perak 'disappointment'

Bersatu will foster closer cooperation with PAS through the Perikatan Nasional platform following the ouster of its Perak menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu, said Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin.
He said the matter was unanimously decided at a Bersatu supreme council meeting chaired by party president Muhyiddin Yassin today, and the decision is aimed to maintain political stability at the state and national levels.
"All decisions to be taken by Bersatu regarding the formation of the new Perak government will take account of joint decisions with Perikatan Nasional partners, especially with PAS, that it is directly involved," he said in a statement tonight.
Hamzah said the Bersatu supreme council also wished to reiterate its disappointment in the Perak state assembly's motion of confidence last week, which it noted was tabled by an Umno assemblyperson but was not supported by Umno and Pakatan Harapan representatives.
For the record, the motion of confidence last Friday was moved by Umno's Pengkalan Baru assemblyperson Abdul Manaf Hashim.
Faizal managed to garner 10 votes in favour of his leadership versus 48 votes cast against him. One vote was either spoiled or abstained.
Earlier today, it was reported that Umno also held its supreme council meeting regarding developments in Perak and decided that the PN government in Perak involving Umno, PAS, and Bersatu should be maintained.
According to Umno supreme council member Zahidi Zainul Abidin, the party will also be nominating its Kota Tampan assemblyperson Saarani Mohammad as its pick to replace Faizal.
Pakatan Harapan's central leadership, meanwhile, has left the matter for its state leadership to decide.
