4 men charged with murder of ex-Mardi researcher
Four men were charged with the murder of a former researcher of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) at Bangsar late last month.
The four accused - M Ravindran, P Kogilan, T Sugu, and S Vickeswaran - were calm when they indicated they understood the murder charge read out to them in Bahasa Malaysia.

Four men were charged with the murder of a former researcher of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) at Bangsar late last month.
The four accused - M Ravindran, 23; P Kogilan, 23; T Sugu, 27 and S Vickeswaran, 22 - were calm when they indicated they understood the murder charge read out to them in Bahasa Malaysia before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court.
No plea was recorded.
Kogilan, Sugu and Vickeswaran worked as a despatch rider, electrician and security guard respectively, while Ravindran is jobless.
The four were alleged to have together murdered Wan Hassan Wan Embong, 73, at a house at Jalan Mambu, Bukit Bandaraya, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, between 3.35am and 4am on Nov 29.
The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence on conviction.
Magistrate Wong Chai Sia then fixed Mar 9, 2021 for mention for the tendering of the forensic report.
Under the law, no bail is granted for those charged with murder.
On Nov 29, Bernama reported the victim was slashed to death by two burglars who broke into his house in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar.
Wan Hassan was believed to have been slashed with a parang when he tried to put up a fight against the burglars, who broke in through the kitchen window of the double-storey bungalow.
It was reported that Wan Hassan, who suffered injuries to the face and neck, was believed to have died at the scene.
It was reported that his wife, a 70-year-old government pensioner, had slash wounds on her right hand.
Another robbery charge
At a separate Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court, the four men claimed trial to a charge of gang robbery at another location in Kuala Lumpur on the same day as the alleged murder.
They were alleged to have wielded a parang and a steel rod while committing the offence against Mohd Muzaffar Zulkifli Martin, 33.
The four were purported to have perpetrated the gang robbery at Lot 442, Jalan Tiara Titiwangsa 1, Taman Tiara Titiwangsa, Setapak, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, between 4.12am and 5.30am on Nov 29.
Framed under Section 395 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, the charge specifies a maximum penalty of 20 years jail and whipping if found guilty.
Judge Izralizam Sanusi did not grant bail and fixed March 9 next year for mention of the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Ahmad Hakimi Wan Ahmad Jaafar prosecuted, while the four accused were not represented in today’s proceedings.
