The three component parties in Sarawak Pakatan Harapan have completed their seat negotiation for the upcoming 12th state election.
Several leaders from Sarawak Harapan told Malaysiakini that they will hold a press conference to make the related announcement on Jan 2, 10.30am, at the Sarawak DAP headquarters in Kuching.
They assured there would not be any three-cornered fights this time among the component parties - DAP, PKR, and Amanah.
“We will fight (with our opponents) one by one (in the upcoming state election),” said a leader from Sarawak Harapan.
The current term of the Sarawak state government will end on June 6, 2021. In other words, the state election must be held the latest by August next year.
During the 11th state election in 2016, PKR and DAP contested against each other in six seats. They lost all of them.
The seats were Batu Kitang, Ngemah, Mulu, Murum, Mambong, and Simanggang.
However, Malaysiakini was told that negotiations between Harapan and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) have not been completed.
In an interview earlier this month, Sarawak Harapan chief Chong Chieng Jen revealed that his coalition had been talking with PSB in the past few months in order to prevent overlapping seats and to strengthen the opposition’s check and balance role in the coming state election.
PSB is currently led by six-term Bawang Assan assemblyperson Wong Soon Koh. Wong previously held positions in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.
He was second finance minister as well as international trade and e-commerce minister in GPS' state cabinet. He quit his positions after accusing the GPS coalition of becoming hostile towards his party.
