He stressed that of the 226 new cases reported yesterday, 185 were from existing clusters of which 110 cases involved the Rawa Akasia cluster alone.
"The people of Penang are urged to remain calm and not neglect recovery movement control order (MCO) rules as well as enhanced MCO rules in Mukim 12 and Mukim 13," he said.
Little details on the Rawa Akasia cluster has been shared by the Health Ministry so far. The index case, a Malaysian woman, 50, from the North East district, was diagnosed on Dec 24 after reporting symptoms.
By Dec 28, four of her contacts had tested positive. Between Dec 30, 2020, and Jan 1, 2021, another 114 contacts of the four had tested positive, including 102 foreigners, spread across the Seberang Perai Selatan, Seberang Perai Tengah and Southwest districts in the state.
There are nine active Covid-19 clusters in Penang.
