Anwar claimed that he had received complaints from the public that the moratorium costs more and added to the burdens of those in need of the moratorium.
"The hire purchase agreement moratorium for vehicles appears to be only a promise by the Perikatan Nasional government which gave false hope," he said in a statement today.
Anwar did not provide specifics on the complications involving the moratorium. However, he urged the government to act on the problem swiftly.
A blanket moratorium on loan repayments was sought by MPs from both sides of the floor during the Budget 2021 debate.
However, Putrajaya had only agreed to allow affected B40 and M40 folks to qualify for a moratorium if they actively applied for it.
Critics of this measure have pointed out that this rule does not work because in cases where loan repayments are affected when one spouse suffers from income lost, but that person was not the spouse who took up the loan.
Meanwhile, Anwar urged Putrajaya to explain the compensation that is owed to Singapore for the now-cancelled Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail project.
So far, Putrajaya has been mum about the quantum required to compensate Singapore.
According to Economic Affairs Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Malaysia was forced to jettison the project because of difficult economic conditions.
