Zaliza Ali, her daughter, two sons and a niece, decided to sleep in her Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) after failing to get a place at an evacuation centre in the area.
She said they went to the evacuation centre in Taman Daiman, about 15km from the house, but was told the place was full.
The woman, who is in her 40s, said since they were already tired, she decided to return to Taman Kota Jaya and went to a petrol station nearby where she parked the car.
"I am made to understand that each evacuation centre can only accommodate a few families because of the Covid-19 SOP (standard operating procedure). So, after being told that the evacuation centre in Taman Daiman was full, I returned to Taman Kota Jaya.
"It was uncomfortable indeed for us to sleep in the car, but Alhamdulillah, my family is safe and we were able to evacuate to a relief centre at Taman Kota Jaya yesterday,” she said when met by Bernama at the centre.
Zaliza said it was the first experience for her and her children sleeping in the car and it happened at a time when her husband was outstation at work.
“The experience is good as it teaches my children to be more independent,” she said.
