The Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021 today held a physical and virtual meeting.

The meeting, chaired by former Chief Justice Arifin Zakaria (above) was attended by all 19 committee members who were appointed with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The meeting was briefed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Takiyuddin Hassan on emergency management, Senior Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the implementation of the movement control order, and Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on the Covid-19 status.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on Feb 23, the committee said in a statement today.

On Feb 9, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the list of 19 individuals appointed to the special committee, chaired by Arifin.

The committee, set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, serves to advise the Agong on the ongoing emergency, as well as when it should end.

The National Security Council of the Prime Minister’s Department serves as the secretariat of the committee.
