Muda gives ROS, Home Ministry one week to respond to registration appeal

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) has delivered an ultimatum over its appeal to get registered.

The youth party's pro-tem vice-president, Lim Wei Jiet, said the Registrar of Societies and Home Ministry have one week to respond with a decision to their appeal.

"If they don't make a decision, we will be forced to take legal action," Lim told reporters in Putrajaya.

He said this after delivering a letter of demand to the ROS and Home Ministry today.

Muda had filed an appeal to its registration in February.

This is after the registrar rejected its application in January, and a subsequent legal bid to compel the ROS to register Muda failed.

Lim said at present, the appeal had not even reached the desk of Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin.

This is because of alleged "security checks" on three new sponsors for the youth party.

"Why does the ROS need additional criteria for these security checks?... This is not required by the societies act," Lim said.

"For us, this is just an excuse by the ROS to delay Muda's registration... These are criteria that they made up," he added.
