Education Minister reminds schools on Covid-19 SOP compliance

The Education Ministry has reminded all school administrators nationwide to prioritise compliance with standard operating procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections among staff and students.
Senior Minister (Education) Mohd Radzi Jidin said parents should also give the matter serious attention, to constantly remind their children of full compliance with Covid-19 prevention procedures while at school.
"In the context of Covid-19, as I have explained before, in the event of any cases, we will refer to experts from the district health department.
"Whatever their views, we at the ministry will follow the advice for the health of our children," he said.
"What is most important, parents must remind their children to follow the SOP.
"We also emphasise this compliance to all school staff including teachers," Radzi said at a press conference in Kota Bharu today.
He said this when asked for comments on the status of Covid-19 infection in schools, including in Kelantan.
A school in Kota Bharu, SK Seri Ketereh, was closed on March 24 after 11 teachers and a student tested positive for Covid-19.
Radzi (photo, above) also said the Covid-19 pandemic has been a massive challenge faced and handled well by Education Ministry staff.
"In these trying times, teachers played a big role in ensuring that students undergoing changes to their learning style could continue to do so under the new restrictions.
"These are trying times but, Alhamdulillah, we have seen how the SPM examination went on smoothly, with compliance with new procedures," he said.
"At the same time, we could also resume with the school session in a safe manner," he added.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Thursday said 41 new clusters and 2,228 cases involving educational facilities, including schools and institutions of higher education, were reported since January this year.
