Covid-19 (April 2): 1,294 new cases, Pahang reaches 2-month high

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,294 new Covid-19 cases amidst a marked increase in new cases in Pahang.

At the national level, the number of active cases is currently 1,4246. Figures have been holding steady since March 21. 

Malaysians made up 70.7 percent of new cases. 

The Klang Valley accounted for 42.35 percent (548 cases) of new cases while East Malaysia made up 21.95 percent (284 cases).

States 

There were four states - Selangor, Sarawak, Penang and Johor - which reported new cases in the three digits.

Of the 16 states and federal territories, there are eight jurisdictions that reported an R-naught number of more than 1.

These areas are Sabah, Penang, Kelantan, Malacca, Labuan, Putrajaya, Kedah and Pahang.

In Pahang, a single cluster - Jalan Putra Square - accounted for nearly half of the new cases. This cluster involved a factory in Kuantan. 

Deaths

The Health Ministry reported five more Covid-19 deaths, bringing the national death toll to 1,283.

The victims were reported in Sarawak (2), Sabah (1), Penang (1) and Johor (1).

The youngest victim - a Sabahan with comorbidity - was only 37.  Meanwhile, the body of a man, 57, was brought to the Balik Pulau hospital and found to have Covid-19.

Clusters

The Health Ministry is currently monitoring 363 active clusters of which 10 were classified today.

The top three most active clusters were either linked to construction sites or factories and were not in the triple digits.

Of the 10 new clusters classified today, eight were detected only after the index case had reported symptoms.

There were three clusters that involved education institutions and one cluster involving a social event.
