The spread of Covid-19 is a global phenomenon and not limited to Malaysia, said the Health Ministry.
In a statement accompanying the ministry's daily Covid-19 report today, it said neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Indonesia were also grappling with a surge in new infections.
"Indonesia reported an average of 5,453 new cases over the past 14 days. Thailand reported 1,547 over the past 24 hours.
"Thailand has been reporting more than 1,500 new cases for three days straight, up from a daily average of 100 new cases in early April.
"Increasing number of cases can also be seen in Malaysia, which now has a cumulative 379,473 Covid-19 cases, after an increase of 2,341 cases today," the Health Ministry said.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia is at 21,268 - a rapid increase from 14,097 recorded on April 7.
Schools reopened for in-person lessons in March, and there have been many Covid-19 clusters involving schools being reported.
The only main restrictions left in place throughout the country is interstate travel and the suspension of all legislative bodies.
