A toll hike for three highways due this year has been put on hold until next year.
Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said the cabinet decided on the postponement after taking into account the rise in cost of living for the people due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The highways affected are the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), South Klang Expressway (SKVE) and the East Coast Highway Phase Two (LPT2).
The government is also extending the deferment for toll rate hikes for 21 other highways, including the North-South Highway (Plus) Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (Duka), Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) and the Maju Expressway (MEX).
Fadillah said the government will have to bear RM2.25 billion in compensation for the toll hike delays.
He said talks to restructure toll rates with highway concessionaires are still underway, with a deadline set for before 2023.
