Najib Abdul Razak has taken a dig at the Perikatan Nasional government for neglecting the middle-income group in the latest economic aid announced on Monday.
The former prime minister, in his Facebook post yesterday, said the middle 40 group (M40) with a household income of above RM5,000 will not benefit from the Pemerkasa Plus stimulus pack.
"They’re not going to get the Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat cash aid, the loan moratorium, i-Sinar and i-Lestari withdrawals, electric bill discount and free (viewing of all) Astro channels," said Najib.
He noted that the M40 group would also not get a moratorium on National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan repayments.
"What form of assistance is given to the M40 group this time around? Except 95,142 companies given approval for the time being to operate during the 'total lockdown'," he said.
On Monday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced an RM40 billion Pemerkasa Plus economic aid to help the people and business community impacted by the total lockdown. This includes a fiscal injection of RM5 billion.
The latest economic aid also aims at boosting the public healthcare capacity in order to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.
Under Pemerkasa Plus, the B40 group, those who lost jobs and small-and-medium enterprises that can't operate during the MCO are eligible for a loan moratorium.
