A construction worker who suffered injuries after a scaffolding collapsed at the Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (Dash) construction site on June 19 has passed away.
In a statement yesterday, Petaling Jaya District police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 53-year-old Bangladesh national succumbed to serious internal and head injuries yesterday morning.
He said the second worker, a 25-year-old who is also from Bangladesh, was still receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
The police were informed of the incident where concrete mixes and iron piles collapsed as they were believed to be overloaded, Mohamad Fakhrudin said.
The June 19 incident involved the construction site of the Dash Highway, which is being built by Prolintas. The collapse occurred near the Kota Damansara exit of the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE).
The two migrant workers were reportedly working beneath the under-construction highway when it collapsed.
The Fire and Rescue Services Department said the duo suffered light injuries from being hit by debris and had been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
This is the third highway-related accident this year.
On March 3, a trailer crashed into metal scaffolding at the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway (Suke), causing an unfinished bridge to collapse onto a moving van. Two people died and three were injured.
On March 22, a crane working on the Suke Highway collapsed, killing three people.
Prolintas is also the developer for Suke.
