Keadilan leader released on police bail

Former Internal Security Act detainee Dr Badrul Amin Bahron who was arrested this morning was released at 9.05pm on police bail.According to a family member, Badrul who is a Keadilan supreme council member, was asked to present himself at the Selayang magistrate's court on Jan 30.
"He will be charged with breaching his conditions of release," said the family member.
The former International Islamic University lecturer is believed to have been arrested for leading prayers for ISA detainees at Keadilan vice president Azmin Ali's office last week.
Badrul's lawyer Saiful Izham said police officers from the Gombak district police headquarters detained Badrul at his house in Gombak at 10.30am.
"The police officers told him and his family that he had contravened Section 8(5) of the ISA by not adhering to the restrictions the home minister put on him after his release," Saiful said.
Saiful also believed that Badrul had ventured out of Gombak where he had been placed under restricted residence.
Contravening restrictions
His wife Zumrah Husni said her husband was arrested when he was resting at home after returning from the market when the police officers arrived.
"There were six to eight of them. The children were there when they took him away. The police said he was being detained for contravening his restrictions," Zumrah said.

Badrul was first arrested under the ISA in April for his alleged involvement in a militant attempt to overthrow the government.
He was released from the Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak on Nov 3 but was banned from holding any party post, and participating in public gatherings and political activities, besides other restrictions.
Badrul was among 10 Keadilan leaders and reformasi activists who were arrested in a dragnet beginning April 10.
The others were party leaders Tian Chua, Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, Saari Sungib, N Gobalakrishnan, Lokman Nor Adam, Abdul Ghani Haron, human rights activist Badaruddin Ismail, malaysiakini columnist-cum-filmmaker Hishamuddin Rais and FreeAnwar.com webmaster Raja Petra Kamaruddin.
While Badaruddin, Gobalakrishnan, Abdul Ghani and Raja Petra were released unconditionally, the rest were sent to Kamunting to serve a two-year detention.
KMM members detained
Meanwhile, four religious teachers and a secretary believed to be members of the Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM) have been sent to the Kamunting Detention Centre today to undergo a two-year detention period.
A statement by the Bukit Aman said that the four had been detained under the Section 73(1) of the ISA for their alleged involvement in militant activities that could threaten the security of the country.
The four - Khairuddin Saad, 30, Mohamad Zulkifli @ Pak Su Md Isa, 35, Muhamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zakaria, 32, Mohd Salleh Said, 30, and Hazmi Ishak, 33 - were arrested under the ISA on Oct 10.
However another person who was arrested with them, religious teacher Zulkifli Memali Ahmad, 39, from Baling, was released unconditionally.
