Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Ronnie Liu has been called in by the police for questioning to facilitate investigations into his presence at the Raub court complex in Pahang yesterday.
Pahang Criminal Investigations Department chief Mohd Yusri Othman said they have opened two investigation papers related to Liu.
“The investigations will be done under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.
“We are investigating whether Liu violated the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the movement control order (MCO) and we have already contacted him to come to the Raub police station,” Yusri was reported as saying by Harian Metro yesterday.
A heated argument occurred at the Raub Magistrates’ Court complex between a few DAP representatives and police officers during a press conference.
Liu was one of the DAP representatives present at the court yesterday, along with Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Puji, Bentong MP Wong Tack, Tras assemblyperson Chow Yu Hui and Bilut assemblyperson Lee Chin Chen.
They were there for 18 durian farmers, including a 17-year-old teenager, who were brought to court for a remand order hearing yesterday to facilitate the Forestry Department’s investigations into alleged trespassing.
The Pahang state government has accused the cultivators of illegal farming and is attempting to evict them as it had leased the land to a firm that is planning its own durian plantation.
The firm, Royal Pahang Durian Resources-PKPP Sdn Bhd (RPDR-PKPP), is a joint venture between the state government and a company linked to the Pahang royalty.
The latest flare-up started when the farmers tried to harvest their produce on the disputed land but were blocked by the Forestry Department and police.
