Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination director Khalid Yusoff who was arrested in connection with marks tampering yesterday, was released on police bail this afternoon.

Magistrate Wan Azizon Ahmad ordered Khalid's release at 12.15pm after he was produced in the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court.

According to one of Khalid's lawyers, Akbardin Abdul Kadir, the police had sought a seven-day remand order from the magistrate.

"The court however accepted our argument that there is no reason to detain him further since investigations into the matter have been going on for so long.

"Furthermore, he was detained to assist in investigations on the exam leak, which has already been completed," he said.

Khalid was represented by nine lawyers and escorted to the courtroom in handcuffs at 10.10 am. He was arrested by a special task force at his house in Shah Alam yesterday.

Discrepancies

Khalid has been in the limelight since he was implicated by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board in the alleged marks tampering of this year's CLP exam. The board suspended him from his post on Tuesday.

After a meeting last week, the board claimed it discovered that there were discrepancies in the marks in the examination papers and the master sheet.

It also said Khalid oversaw the preparation, conduct and marking of the examination after which he would table the results together with the examiners' report to the board for approval.

Following the discovery, a police report was lodged by the board on the same day.
