The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) shared details of a tragic case yesterday in which an 8-month-old baby succumbed to Covid-19.

It is also understood that the boy's mother is fighting for her life in the intensive care unit (ICU), Jawi said on Twitter. 

"We were saddened last night, for the first time receiving the body of such a young victim. A baby boy at the Raudhatul Sakinah KL-Karak Islamic Cemetery, Taman Selaseh.

"His father and eight other children are undergoing quarantine at home now," Jawi tweeted. 

The religious body expressed its condolences and prayers for the baby and his family.

The Health Ministry reported 11,079 new Covid-19 cases yesterday - the highest daily case count, with active infections in the country standing at 96,236. There were 972 patients in ICU, with 456 intubated.

The country also saw 125 deaths yesterday, bringing the death toll to 6,385.

Covid-19 remains most dangerous to the elderly, who face a much higher risk of developing severe disease or dying from the virus than children.
