In a heartwarming scene, residents of flats in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, showered healthcare workers and others on duty with gifts, at the end of their quarantine period.
Residents of Pangsapuri Sri Ayu in Section 4 were under strict lockdown until yesterday, following a Covid-19 outbreak.
They were not allowed to leave the compounds of the flats until all residents had completed the Covid-19 testing and quarantine period.
On July 13, the last of them had their quarantine bands cut, marking the end of the lockdown on Pangsapuri Sri Ayu.
"After the operations to cut quarantine wristbands were completed, residents gave workers all sorts of gifts including flowers, chocolates, teddy bears and food.
"Thank you to all residents for appreciating our work.
"We hope all residents will continue to take care of themselves by frequently washing their hands with soap and water or hand sanitisers, wearing masks and maintaining a physical distance of one metre," the Hulu Langat Information Office said in a Facebook posting yesterday.
Videos uploaded by the information office showed healthcare workers in personal protective equipment dancing in the car park area of the flats, while appreciative residents cheered them on from the corridors.
In one video, residents were seen dropping gifts from their balconies.
"I love you, too," a healthcare worker said in response.
The jubilant atmosphere cuts a stark contrast from scenes of barbed wires and armed personnel patrolling areas under the Covid-19 lockdown.
Pangsapuri Sri Ayu was placed under strict lockdown from June 30 to July 13 after at least 200 residents there tested positive for Covid-19 in a span of one month.
The flats also serve as accommodation for some 2,000 factory workers.
Residents who tested negative in the lockdown period were also immediately vaccinated.
