DPM, AG and ministers flock to PM's residence for meeting

A stream of vehicles was seen entering Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s residential area in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur today.

This included Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Attorney-General Idrus Harun.

Others spotted were Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Education Minister Mohd Radzi Mohd Jidin, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun, MIC president SA Vignewswaran and Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The late-night meeting comes in the wake of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declaring that 11 lawmakers from his party have withdrawn their support for Muhyiddin and their letters have been submitted to the palace.

He added that more Umno lawmakers would retract their support for the prime minister, who came into power following a political coup early last year.

Apart from Zahid, those present at the press conference were Najib Abdul Razak (Pekan), Azalina Othman Said (Pengerang), Mohd Nizar Zakaria (Parit), Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling) Noh Omar (Tanjung Karang), Ahmad Nazlan Idris (Jerantut), Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub (Machang), Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Gua Musang), Ramli Mohd Nor (Cameron Highlands) and Ahmad Maslan (Pontian).

Prior to this, Umno’s Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who is also the MP for Lenggong, quit from Muhyiddin’s cabinet. He was the former energy and natural resources minister.

A source close to the Umno president told Malaysiakini later that about 14 MPs from the party have withdrawn their support for Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president.

"Among those who were not present today but have signed letters retracting support for PN are Lenggong and [an MP from Sabah]," said the source.

Following the meeting with Muhyiddin, Ismail Sabri met with a group of Umno MPs who are aligned to the PN government at the Seri Pacific Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The meeting ended close to 2am, with one MP, Zahidi Zainul Abidin claiming that the government remains intact.

Numerous speculations have been making the rounds since Zahid's announcement regarding Muhyiddin's fate, and who would become the next prime minister.

The opposition appears divided on who it would back for the post, therefore leaving none of the frontrunners with a clear majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
