Muhyiddin has no standing to offer 'open bribery', says Harapan
The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has rejected Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s offer to implement reforms in exchange for the opposition’s support, adding to the chorus of opposition MPs turning down the offer.

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has rejected Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s offer to implement reforms in exchange for the opposition’s support, adding to the chorus of opposition MPs turning down the offer.
Harapan said Muhyiddin has no standing to make such an offer, which it described as “open bribery”.
“This is the first time in Malaysian history where a prime minister admitted losing majority support, but blatantly continue to canvass support from the opposition.
“This is also the first time a prime minister with no legitimacy openly offers a bribe on live television in front of all Malaysians,” it said in a statement today.
It said Muhyiddin must resign immediately after conceding that he has lost majority support.
It added that Muhyiddin is also going against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s constitutional function by claiming that he could not resign because no other MP can prove that he has majority support.
Harapan pointed to Articles 43(2)(a) and 43(4) of the Federal Constitution to prove its point.
Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, which stipulates that the king shall appointment an MP “who in his judgement is likely to command the confidence of the majority of the MPs” to be prime minister.
Article 43(4), meanwhile, says if the prime minister ceases to have the confidence of the majority of MPs, then he shall either tender his and his cabinet’s resignation to the king, or ask the king to dissolve Parliament.
“Therefore, Harapan takes the stance of strongly rejecting Muhyiddin’s insincere offer, which should have been made earlier and not at the end of his political life. The focus should be on saving the people and not his political career.
“Instead, Harapan is opting to show solidarity with the people who are suffering because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are confident that we can present a better plan, especially to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, revive the economy, and save the people’s lives and livelihood,” it said.
