Ombudsman Malaysia Bill to be tabled next year, says PM

In a written parliamentary reply, he said the government is in the final stage of drafting the bill and would bring it to the cabinet latest by the end of this year, before tabling it in the Parliament.
Ombudsman Malaysia is an impartial independent body to solve public complaints against government agencies.
"The government is committed to continuing the legislation of the Ombudsman Malaysia Act.
"The Ombudsman Malaysia Bill is now in its final stage of drafting and would be tabled in the Parliament latest by 2022 after it is taken to the cabinet for approval, latest by the end of 2021," said the prime minister.
Ismail Sabri's written reply was in response to a question from Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa.
The setting up of the ombudsman was first approved by the then Pakatan Harapan cabinet in 2019 as part of its reform initiatives.
According to the then de facto law minister Liew Vui Keong, it would serve as a platform for the public to channel complaints and grievances against the public services delivery system and ensure the government function efficiently and effectively towards an accountable democracy.
"The setting up of Ombudsman Malaysia is aimed at boosting public confidence and overcoming the trust deficit towards the credibility of the public services delivery system," Liew had said.
