Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has praised Putrajaya's deal with Pakatan Harapan which, among others, should result in parliamentary reforms.
In his Malaysia Day address today, Amirudin said the deal should not be seen as a political ceasefire but an attempt to improve Parliament's effectiveness.
Amirudin (above) said Selangor had led the way since 2008 during the Pakatan Rakyat administration, which accorded proper recognition for the opposition leader and reserved the Public Accounts Committee position for the opposition.
"Selangor also led the way by providing special funding for opposition lawmakers and inviting the opposition leader to the special Selangor state security working committee meetings," he added.
The developments in Putrajaya, said Amirudin, was a sign that Parliament cannot be treated as a "zero-sum" game that benefits only the winner.
"Now, Parliament can function better by ending the domination of one faction and replace it with cooperation and collaboration between coalitions or parties," he added.
On Aug 13, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Transformation and Political Stability with Harapan.
Under the deal, Ismail Sabri promised to institutionalise several reforms long sought by Harapan.
In return, Harapan promised, with conditions, not to oust him and support his Budget 2022.

Among others, the premier vowed to set up more parliamentary select committees and restructure existing ones.
These are powerful committees helmed by MPs that can summon the executive or government agencies for hearings. They typically play a check-and-balance in most Westminster systems.
Ismail Sabri also gave his word that the select committee heads will be equally split between the government MPs and Harapan. The committees are also to be funded and staffed.
He also promised equal funding for government and opposition MPs.
