A 19-year-old drowned after he jumped into a dam in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor to save a friend earlier today.

It is learned that the youths were taking photos on a bridge in Kampung Pertak when one of them accidentally fell into the water.

Following this, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department issued an immediate warning to all holiday-goers to be more vigilant especially when they are at water attractions.

A spokesperson for the department said they received a call at 4.15pm about a possible drowning case at a bridge in Kampung Pertak.

He said a rescue team deployed to search for the victim found his body at 6.02pm.

"The incident happened when the victim was trying to save a friend who is believed to have fallen into the dam.

"The friend whom he tried to save has managed to get to safety, but the victim was nowhere to be seen after having taken a dive into the water," said the spokesperson.

Authorities have deployed seven firefighters, a team of divers, and a boat to search for the victim.

The victim has been identified as Hamzah Ilya Azman, while his friend is Ahmad Nabil Yasin Abdul Rashih, 20.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department warned holidaymakers to be extra careful given the rainy season.

"Those who are visiting rivers, waterfalls, or the sea, if it starts to rain, please leave the area immediately to avoid becoming affected by flash floods, sudden rise in water levels, or getting swept away by water.

"For hikers, be careful when you go jungle trekking in jungles and hilly areas to avoid getting lost, trapped, or struck by lightning."
