After Langkawi, now Genting, Tioman, and Malacca to open for tourists

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has proposed three more destinations to be opened for domestic tourism.
Its minister Nancy Shukri said they are Genting Highlands, Pulau Tioman, and Malacca.
She said the proposal has been approved in the Covid-19 Ministerial Quartet meeting today.
“Today, we approved three more destinations and they would be brought to the special meeting tomorrow,” she said, referring to the Special Committee on Tackling Covid-19.
Nancy (above) was speaking at a press conference after the Covid-19 Ministerial Quartet meeting at the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur today.
The meeting was chaired by Senior Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and was attended by Nancy as well as Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Nancy said the standard operating procedure (SOP) for travelling to the three destinations would be studied.
This is especially for entry into Malacca, she said, which has a wide area of coverage.
Industry players in the three destinations have been told to be ready to receive visitors, she added.
On Langkawi Island's reopening which began on Sept 16, she said 6,662 tourists entered the island by air while 3,483 entered via ferry.
Meanwhile, Faizal said that during the meeting, his ministry proposed the reopening of stadiums for spectators, including for football tournaments and other sports.
“It is also to celebrate the Malaysia Cup which would be starting soon and all SOPs would be studied,” he said.
Last Friday, gymnasiums and bowling alleys were allowed to open under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan with SOPs.
They included guidelines on ventilation as most gymnasiums are indoor which could raise the risk of Covid-19 infection.
Hishammuddin said the recent relaxation of rules for the sports sector took into account the mental wellbeing of the people and the needs of gym operators.
