The Health Ministry is looking into improving the 'checkout' feature on its MySejahtera application after many users complained that they always forget to sign off when leaving a location.
Speaking about the issue today, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said in jest that he had 'slept' inside a supermarket if one were to look at his MySejahtera history.
"Many have commented about this checkout feature. If you were to refer to my MySejahtera history, it would show that I had spent a night inside a supermarket.
"So now, we are looking at how we can best improve the feature. I admit that currently, many find it hard to comply because they usually do not open their MySejahtera after leaving a premises," he told a press conference in Putrajaya.
Khairy said the feature was built with good intention, which was to help the health authority gets better location information and the time period one had spent at premises for its use in pandemic-related responses.
"It is for good use, but the execution needs to be further improved."
The MySejahtera app was built to help the Health Ministry better trace close contacts of Covid-19 cases, among others.
Early this month, it rolled out the new feature that requires users to checkout after they leave the premises. It is to be done by clicking a button on the app.
However, users had found it difficult to comply and some found that they haven't checked out from premises for days.
It had also become sort of an amusement that it prompted someone to open a satire account on Twitter just to remind people to use the checkout feature. The account had since gained over 7,000 followers.
Rebate for test kits
Khairy also said that he is supportive of a suggestion that the government gives rebates to those who report the results from their Covid-19 self-tests but needs to check on the budget.
"We support the suggestion. But a rebate is essentially a subsidy.
"I have to discuss with the Finance Ministry if we can get a budget that allows us to give a rebate. That will ensure better reporting of tests," he said.
This followed a suggestion by Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii yesterday that the government should try offering rebates to incentivise people to report their results from the self-test kits.
This is because many people who tested negative from the self-test kits do not report their results to the Health Ministry via the MySejahtera app, which ends up skewing the positivity rate.
