PARLIAMENT | Members of Parliament are allowed to remove their face masks only when debating in the Dewan Rakyat, ruled Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun today.
He said the decision was reached after obtaining the views of the Ministry of Health (MOH), which carried out a risk assessment in Parliament.
"However, the Honorable Members must resume wearing the face mask immediately after speaking," he said in the Dewan Rakyat.
Through RTK Antigen and RT-PCR screening tests, Azhar said no individual in the Parliament compound tested positive for Covid-19 during this sitting.
Previously on Sept 14, Azhar had said all MPs were not allowed to remove face masks when speaking or debating and encouraged the wearing of double face masks.
This was due to the improvement of standard operating procedures (SOP) in the Parliament building to curb the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic and to ensure that the Dewan Rakyat sittings ran safely.
Following this new permission to remove his face mask, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz tabled the second reading of the Temporary Measures for Government Financing (Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) (Amendment) Bill 2021, without wearing one.
