COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 8,084 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,369,613.

They were surpassed by a total of 12,456 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

  • Patients in ICU: 702
  • Intubated: 367

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 15.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 17.2 percent from a week ago.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 13), where 7,950 new cases were reported, is as follows:

Selangor (1,449)
Sarawak (1,165)
Kelantan (958)
Sabah (751)
Johor (703)
Terengganu (499)
Kedah (489)
Penang (474)
Perak (405)
Pahang (342)
Kuala Lumpur (309)
Malacca (188)
Negeri Sembilan (167)
Perlis (32)
Putrajaya (19)
Labuan (0)

Pahang's total of 342 is the lowest since July 23.

The disease's effective reproduction number (Rt) was above 1.00 in two states and territories, namely Putrajaya (1.07) and Negeri Sembilan (1.03), though Perlis comes close at 0.99.

An Rt above 1.00 indicates an outbreak that is growing and accelerating in pace, whereas an Rt below that threshold indicates an outbreak that is in decline.

To date, 744 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 17 new clusters reported today.
