Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's opening address at the party assembly today has answered all issues raised on his leadership, according to the Umno Youth deputy chief.

"Every single question has been answered. Every doubt erased," said Khairy Jamaluddin.

"The prime minister has outlined 12 fundamental approaches in his governance. And I think he has answered of a lot of his critics today," he said.

"He has laid forth a vision for the future, both for economic development and political stability," he added.

Khairy said Abdullah's 90-minute speech was one of the most comprehensive speeches given by any Umno president.

This morning, Abdullah, who is also Umno president, revisited the 12 points which he first mooted when taking the government's helm in 2003, in his speech to some 2,500 delegates.

Abdullah said the 12 'pillars', which included religious tolerance, battling corruption and promoting good governance would ensure the well-being of the nation in the future.

The premier also lambasted religious fanatics for hijacking his Islam Hadhari concept, claiming that such conservative revivalist views would endanger the nation's multi-racial society.

'He protects no one'

Responding to the speech, Khairy said Abdullah had the vision to develop a more mature and democratic society.

Khairy, who is the premier's son-in-law, was confident that Abdullah would ensure the protection of the social contract, as raised by Umno Youth.

"The prime minister has shown that he was willing to commit himself on this matter. The social contract is one of the few things that guarantees a peaceful society. He has promised that he would continue this tradition," he said.

On corruption, Khairy agreed with Abdullah that the problem was the lack of evidence to prosecute anyone.

"The problem is that people do not dare to come forth with evidence proving corruption. He is ready to act on corruption if there is evidence," said Khairy.

"He will not protect anyone what else can you ask from the PM," he added.

The party assembly started today and will end on Friday.
