Covid-19 deaths (Dec 7): 38 reported fatalities, total at 30,652

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 38 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Dec 6), bringing the cumulative death toll to 30,652.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 930 deaths per one million population.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 21.1 percent or 8 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 6, making up 15.8 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Perak (5), Kedah (4), Kelantan (4), Terengganu (4), Kuala Lumpur (4), Pahang (3), Sabah (3), Malacca (2), Johor (1), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Sarawak (1).

No new deaths were reported in Perlis, Penang, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 37 out of the 38 reported deaths, or 97.4 percent, occurred in the last seven days.

The remaining deaths occurred more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 47 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 40, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 60,329 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 7.9 percent from the 65,497 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 7.9 percent from 65,507.
