Anwar wades in PD flood waters, meets with victims

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was in Port Dickson today to survey some areas affected by floods due to heavy rains since yesterday.

"I met with flood victims in Taman Desa Permai, Sri Tanjung.

"I have also directed immediate assistance to be given to the flood victims to ease their burden," he said.

Anwar, who is the Port Dickson MP, called for major planning related to flood mitigation systems to ensure these sorts of disasters can be avoided in the future.

Three flood relief centres in Klang, Selangor, as well as one in Alor Gajah, Malacca have been opened.

The number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang rose to 1,019 families from 230 as of 8pm last night.

In Pahang, Maran dan Raub were inundated causing 218 people from 60 families to be evacuated to 11 relief centres.

In Kelantan, the number of victims increased to 735 families from 156 while in Terengganu the number of evacuees increased to 66 families from 14 as of 8pm last night.
