Indonesia’s Health Ministry said it has confirmed three Covid-19 cases involving the Omicron variant, including among travellers arriving from Malaysia.
“As with the five cases before, the three confirmed cases are imported cases. They involve international travellers from Congo and Malaysia.
“All three are Indonesian migrant workers who are now undergoing quarantine at Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, Jakarta,” it said in a statement today.
The statement does not say how many of the three originated from Malaysia, nor the source of infection.
It said the three cases were confirmed through whole-genome sequencing, which produced results on Wednesday (Dec 22).
Malaysia’s Health Ministry previously confirmed 13 Omicron variant cases, all of which were imported cases from overseas.
When contacted, its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre will contact its Indonesian counterpart for more information.
