A court registry official was assaulted by a detainee in an incident at the Johor Baru Magistrate Court yesterday.

According to Bernama, Johor Baru South Deputy OCPD Lim Jit Huey said that the attack occurred during a remand process hearing.

He said that the police on duty managed to intervene and the victim was safe and unharmed.

Subsequently, the 30-year-old man was arrested for the assault and the case is now being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant.

The charge carries a maximum of two-year imprisonment and an RM10,000 fine, or both.
