Najib: Muhyiddin backed Hajiji Noor for Sabah CM all along

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has hit back at Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, claiming he had intended to name Hajiji Noor as chief minister all along.
“The internet has not forgotten. He (Muhyiddin) said Hajiji would be the chief minister of Sabah on Sept 12, 2020 (on) nomination day, which is the start of Sabah’s campaign period.
“So how can you say you waited until the campaign ended when you already intended to name Hajiji as the next Sabah chief minister?
“He (Muhyiddin) had planned this much earlier, not at the end of the campaign period as claimed in his statement,” he said in a Facebook post, attaching screenshots of news articles to back up his claim.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin refuted accusations that Bersatu, through Perikatan Nasional, grabbed the Sabah chief minister position from BN which is led by Umno.
He claimed that he had asked Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to name the chief minister candidate from Umno but a name was not given until the end of the Sabah polls campaign.
Muhyiddin alleged that it was due to that reason he named Hajiji in the event that PN won the most number of seats in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition.
GRS comprises BN, PN and PBS. BN is made up of Umno, MCA, MIC and PBRS while PN is made up of Bersatu, PAS, Star, SAPP and Gerakan. PBS is a Sabah-based party.
He said in the end, PN won 17 seats, BN 14 while PBS received seven, making PN the largest coalition.
Muhyiddin also said that Bersatu did not contest against Umno in any seats during the Sabah polls.
Commenting on the matter, Najib alleged that the seats won by Bersatu were Umno’s traditional seats.
“Umno was told to hand over the seats to Bersatu.
“Umno had won 14 seats, Bersatu won 11 seats. Bersatu got the chief ministerial post.
“No need to twist the facts again, we already know your intentions,” Najib said.
'Please deny attempt to bribe Umno members too'
Johor Bersatu chief Mohd Solihan Badri previously claimed that Muhyiddin would not contest in the upcoming Johor state elections to focus on the management and operations of Perikatan Nasional (PN)’s machinery throughout Johor.
Solihan added that Muhyiddin was of the view that the BN government’s domination “must end” and Umno “must not be able to rise again forever” following the 15th general election.
Najib called on Muhyiddin to refute Solihan’s statement and an audio recording of someone, believed to be Muhyiddin, allegedly expressing intentions to bribe Umno members to join Bersatu.
“Try to deny this audio recording. Is that not (your) voice during a Bersatu supreme council meeting on Feb 23, 2020, voicing intentions to bribe Umno members (to join Bersatu) to form the largest party component in government?” he said.
He attached a link to a Youtube video clip titled ‘Scheme of things’.
“So, why should Umno be friends with a party whose actual intention is to end Umno forever with plans to bribe and buy in Umno members from the very beginning?” Najib added.
Umno had on Jan 22 moved to dissolve the BN-Perikatan Nasional government in Johor without consulting Bersatu or PAS, which are part of PN, in an apparent bid to oust them from the state government so BN can govern alone.
Najib, who has been convicted of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, justified Umno's move by accusing Bersatu of behaving treacherously first during the Sabah polls in 2020.
This has led to further conflict between the former prime ministers.
