COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 15 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Feb 12), bringing the cumulative death toll to 32,114.

Of the newly reported deaths, 33.3 percent or five died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 972 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia.

The reported deaths were in Johor (4), Perak (4), Kelantan (2), Terengganu (2), Kedah (1), Malacca (1) and Sabah (1).

No new deaths were reported in Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

An average of 12 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 13, indicating an uptrend.

To date, 511 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.

As of yesterday, there were 140,336 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 112.8 percent from the 65,952 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 248.4 percent from 40,276.

From the 22,802 new cases yesterday, 658 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 279 (42.4 percent) were from education institutions while 175 (26.6 percent) were from high-risk groups such as old folks homes.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to workplaces (147-22.3 percent), detention centres (53-8.1 percent) and community transmissions (4-0.6 percent).
