COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 26,832 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, a slight decrease after a record-breaking Sunday.

Active cases currently stand at 251,678, up 237.8 percent compared to 14 days ago. The latest R-number (Feb 19) is 1.21 and has been trending downwards over the past week.

Another 37 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 10 were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 31.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 15.9, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 32,347 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The largest number of deaths was reported in Johor (9) followed by Sabah (4), Penang (3), Pahang (2), Malacca (1) and Labuan (1).

There are 7,524 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 247 are in intensive care.

While new daily cases are around record numbers, the number of hospitalisations are not while the number of patients in intensive care are growing at a slower rate.

According to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, since January, 50,000 children below 12 were Covid-19 positive while 148 were categorised as Category 3 to Category 5.

"The daily Covid-19 bed usage pattern among children under 12 years has shown to be increasing, in line with the rise in Covid-19 cases in the country," Noor Hisham said on his Facebook page.
