Former Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony has managed to register his new party - Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) - with the Registrar of Societies.
According to the Borneo Post, the Melalap assemblyperson said KDM will next be applying to join the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ruling coalition.
“For us, a small party, we too want to assist and contribute to the state’s development. So we will apply to join GRS so we can work together with component parties like PBS and Star, among others,” Peter was quoted as saying.
“What is important is the cooperation as we can exchange and contribute ideas. We can also contribute input from the grassroots on how we can assist the government,” he added.
Peter, 51, quit Warisan in December, claiming that the Sabah-based opposition party had gone astray by expanding to Peninsular Malaysia.
Just before his exit, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court had ordered him to enter his defence for his fraud case over the use of fake support letters back in 2014.

Meanwhile, Peter reportedly said KDM obtained its registration on Feb 18 and will hold a formal launch on March 13.
He welcomed Sabahans to join the political vehicle, saying the multi-racial party will concentrate on Sabah matters.
According to the Borneo Post, Universiti Malaysia Sabah geography Associate Professor Gaim James Lunkapis will serve as KDM’s secretary-general while its deputy president will be Limbahau assemblyperson Juil Nuatim.
Like Peter, Juil had quit Warisan in late December 2021.
